Don't be shy! Post an introduction about yourself. Who you are, where you're from, what you like to do (no vulgarity), and what you've done in QB.

So for me, I'm Todd. I'm an admin here on QB45. I'm from the Eastern USA. I like to write software in PHP, Delphi, C++, and BASIC. As far as QB goes, I've made GUIs and one of them being QB Object. QB Object is more of a GUI SDK that simplifies making a GUI. I've also worked on M-OS a few times before.

SebMcClouth on 08/11/08 - 13:05:19

Well, I'm Sebastian McClouth. Some people'd say I'm getting famous in the scene for my project QBinux.

I'm from The Netherlands. I only program in QB PDS. Currently I only work on QBinux.

Some older program you might have seen on QB-gui's site was MacOS. Yes, that came frome me.
Within a couple of week I hope to release one of my first programming attempts, which was an ASCII-version of Win3.1.

I came around this site in, I think, 1997 or so, when we got hooked to the internet at my parents place. It's cool so see it back up.

Brandon on 08/11/08 - 18:03:15

I'm Brandon Cornell, admin at The GUI Blog. I've been programming GUIs since 2005, I started in QB 1.1 then moved to 4.5 and finally FreeBASIC. My GUI Fun500, can be used to show my progress in programming.

I guess in "real life" I could be described as a country boy. I live in rural New York State, and used to have sheep and chickens. I suppose you wonder how that leads to computers, my dad had a VIC 20 and C64 when he was young and we have always had a Computer. Like must of us,I'm young, only 15.

Marcade on 08/12/08 - 00:54:13

I'm Mark Koelemij; from the Netherlands as well. But currently living in Shanghai (China). I guess I am mainly known by (relatively new) people for NeoBASIC.

I have gotten online & in touch with QB Community somewhere in 1996; when we all were waiting in anticipation for Tsugumo's next demo.

During that time I joined the bandwagon and created mainly RPG demo's as well in QB4.5. The last thing I used QB for was a small project together with Wisdomdude, creating CONNECT4QB, using V1ctor's DSock Internet library. Here on QB45.com you can also find Katsumi and Low Radiation demo's made by me.

Currently I no longer program QB (or FB) since I am too busy with other stuff. I used to work for IBM for over 7 years and now working for HP; my 'official' title being (Technical) Solution Architect. At the moment I am training other people how to program (properly) in HP Service Manager.

Dav on 08/12/08 - 12:17:18

I'm Dav, real name is Dave. (maybe more known as the code post guy in the scene). I'm a muscian, teacher and recording artist living in NC, USA. I also play the stock market (well, it plays me).

My involvement with QB started when QB was sold in stores and the only place to talk & share code was the Quik_Bas echo on BBS (I remember The Car posting his cool game SpinBall on there). When the ABC packets started I decided to get 'online' just to get those. Then I eventually found great QB sites like Jorden's QB45.com, where I mostly lurked for a few years. When I finally did post, I left the e off my name.

Thinking the QB scene needed a code sharing forum, I started The QB Code Post and did that for a while. That went down, up, down, now gone for good. Around that time I started helping wildcard admin his great QB news site (still helping there) called http://www.qbasicnews.com

That's about as much as I want to write (probably more than you wanted to read too). Oh, I do have a small Qbasic site up, visit if you'd like:
http://www.qbasicnews.com/dav

Glad to see this site come back up!

- Dav

The Car on 08/12/08 - 17:17:13

I'm Eric Carr. I'm probably most known for my Spinball games and 3d engines using DirectQB (back when you could boot to dos).

I've been programming in basic since about '92 on an Atari 130xe. Like Dav, I also participated in the Quik_Bas echo community via a local BBS before I had internet access.

For a few years now I've been a co-admin with Marcade on NeoBasic (although he does most of the real work ;). I wrote a small web game in php largely based off of the old Legend Of The Red Dragon BBS game.

In real life, I'm an applications architect for a sizable website. I mainly code in C# nowadays.

I also dabble in music. I play keyboards, guitar, and bass as well as mess around with tracking in Cubase.

TmEE on 08/14/08 - 16:04:37

I'm Tiido Priimägi, I live in Estonia (eastern Europe), and I love QuickBASIC 4.5

I started with QBASIC 1.1, found QB45, made a lot of stuff in it (few games, some sound stuff like a speech synth, WAV players a MIDI tracker). Ever since qb45.com died some years ago, I got further away from QB45. I'm so happy to see it revived, and I need to re-submit my stuff.

Now I'm messing with Sega Mega Drive (Genesis for US people), and I've wrote on of the most powerful sound engines for that beast. Guess what, all tools including the tracker ( http://www.fileden.com/files/2008/4/21/1876835/1.PNG ) are written in QB45 :)
I code in assembly more than BASIC now... I love Motorola 680x0 CPUs, but Z80 is pretty ok aswell... I don't really like x86. I'm gonna learn SH-x and ARM family aswell in future.
I'm also helping to make game for the Mega Drive ( www.piersolar.com ) and I also have my own MD game in progress. I'm also slowly porting Wetspot to MD.

I like to mess with music... I used to play bass guitar for some time, but now I don't do anything more than use my own tracker to make music for MD.
Get a MD emulator such as Kega Fusion and you can listen my stuff : http://www.fileden.com/files/2008/4/21/1876835/TMFPLAY.BIN
one HW recording : http://www.fileden.com/files/2008/4/21/1876835/CA-MENU.OGG

I'm still 18 and I have lot of stuff ahead...

@The Car : Your Spinball kicks @$$ :D

Zap on 08/15/08 - 10:54:12

Zap checking in (haven't used that name for years, feels funny :P)

I did QB for quite some years back in the days, changed to FB when that came around, but quickly moved on to C++ and other unrelated interests.

Back when I was active I coded and ran such sites as qbasic.tk, freebasic.tk, quickhost which became fileanchor, and probably other stuff I don't remember. Most of it together with SumoJo and Rhican. Later on we ran qbasicnews.com for some time, though it was mostly me towards the end. This ended in yet another closure of qbasicnews when I got tired of it all (there was next to no activity and no one to take it over), which resulted in the magical reappearence of wildcard who had ran it years before :P

Later on there was copy-pasta and file-pasta though neither one really picked up, and I faded away from the scene because nothing really caught me there anymore, and especially the fileanchor-sales-ordeal left me kinda bored with it all.

The other day I randomly found out that a guy had resurected an ancient version of fileanchor (quickhost), so now Im digging about trying to figure what's going on around here :P

In real life I just returned from serving in the navy for some time, and I start uni in a month, yay for me :)

James Robert Osborne on 08/24/08 - 07:22:31

I'm James Robert Osborne, formally known as WisdomDude. I live around Houston, TX. I work part-time delivering pizzas while focusing more time on projects.

My history with QB was creating Hack-Man 1, Hack-Man 2, Hack-Man 3, QBall, Connect 4 QB, and Cyber Chick. You can find a video compilation of my games here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=982eKRzFReI&fmt=18

I left QB and moved onto FB, and really haven't touched it lately as I'm now into videography. Right now, I like to get familiar with open source software that is useful in the world of videography. I'm currently working on a couple of more video projects, and hopefully, I'll have http://www.jamesrobertosborne.com fully up and running. There's not too much about me, but other than that, I'm doing alright in the time being.

Jofers on 08/25/08 - 21:37:55

Hey, I ran this place into the ground once. How's it going all?

Todd on 08/25/08 - 22:47:02

Pretty good. I got the site up and running. Jofers whatever happened to your QB45 site?

Jofers on 08/25/08 - 22:56:17

I couldn't maintain it through my senior year, so I let VonGodric be admin. Then he ran into the same problem and gave it to someone else. Eventually the site wound up not being updated in forever, and whoever own the domain (it wasn't me) let it expire, when Marcade bought it up.

Todd on 08/25/08 - 23:07:13

That's ashame. The bigfoot site was a pretty nice site until it went down again.

Jofers on 08/25/08 - 23:44:33

Not too much of one. That was a clunky interface, we never should have tried to make our own. Besides, I miss the old Future Software. But what, no robboard? :)

Marcade on 08/26/08 - 02:03:28

:D Jofers, I'd love to see a picture of you with a "been there, done that" t-shirt which 'd say "I ran QB45.com into the ground once" :D (n) *stupid dutch nerd humor*

SOME on 08/26/08 - 12:03:41

I offen came to qb45.com since 1999 when I was a high school student in China. Same as Marcade I'm living ShangHai now.

Most of my QB programme were written while I was in high school and college. I really love qb which gave me so much fun.

Piptol on 08/26/08 - 18:14:24

Hi, my claim to fame is that as a noob I once acidentally brought the Future Software forum crashing down with some open HTML tags.. it's the reason HTML originally got blocked here :D

That was about 10 years ago too, sheesh..

I coded Ghini Run, Kingdoms Squealer TNT, and spent far too much time mooching around here and later on QBasicNews..

I still hang around my forum at http://piptol.qbasicnews.com too but gave up hobby coding as I do it every day for a living now.

Stinktier on 09/03/08 - 05:27:20

I'm Stefan.

I discovered QB 4.5 in the fourth grade accidently, played around with it until i got to visit a real game programming company for some week via the school in the eight grade. They don't exist anymore. Now i'm 21, and i'm trying to shape up my memory a bit. haven't programmed since 9th grade.

Thinking about learning some ASM.
Just discovered futurelibrary, what time i'm saving now!

yudorifda on 11/20/08 - 00:11:43

I'm Yudo.

I come from Jakarta (Indonesia).

I know QB 4.5 since 1992, since I found a book about games programming in BASIC. I don't say that I understood BASIC. I was (and am) just curious.

I've tried to compose fool source codes in BASIC, and most (if not all) of them are not finished, and until now I don't really understand any programming language and concepts. Probably, I'm the foolest between this forum's members. hhhh.

Thanks.

johntux on 11/26/08 - 23:15:15

I'm John, I started coding in QB1.1 9 years ago. I decided to study math because I thought it was the only way to know as much progmming as those "holy cows" like Future Software, Angello Motola, MK Productions, Aaron Severn, and many many others who I really admire.

I always wanted to make an "OS" under QB but I have never had enough time for it

At the college, I also learnt C/C++ and ASM.

Actually I study Computer Science and I'm learning Python and Java.

I'm working very hard to push QB to "imposible" horizons (while time allows it, of course). At this time I work with data compression algorithms , image formats and reverse engineering.

My goal: try to make Qb to emulate true OS applications... (yes, you think I'm crazy, our efforts have full sense, just wait a little bit :P

My hobbies: play the piano, maybe go for a walk with the girl, drink coffee.

that's all ;D

My name is Jake, I live in Florida and I've been programming in basic for a little over 3 years.

I have worked on countless engines, although I haven't finished anything (Damn ADD), but I've worked on some projects for quite a while.

I look forward to finishing something (eventually) and posting it to see what everyone (that is, everyone who decides to look at it) thinks of it.

on 12/04/08 - 21:19:39

After reading a few threads, I wanted to introduce myself to this community. I look forward to sharing ideas with other forum members.

Best regards,

Richard

Todd on 12/04/08 - 22:22:10

Hello Richard, welcome to QB45.

Marcade on 12/05/08 - 20:14:08

Why would a Call Center CEO be interested in qb45? :D

Todd on 12/06/08 - 00:27:39

I find it a little "different" but hopefully it'll be for the better. :-S

Achury on 12/17/08 - 19:56:06

I'm Marco Achury. Just a hobbist programmer. I have not released any great program, I mainly small tools to automatize my own work.

I moderate a discussion group about BASIC in spanish language:
http://espanol.groups.yahoo.com/group/basic-es/

And keep a document in spanish language that explain to newbies where to find free interpreters-compilers.

¡Excelente! Welcome to the community, Marco! We're not all professionals so hobbiest programmers are welcomed. :-)

Pete Berg on 12/25/08 - 14:30:55

Hey guys! I've been around since '97 or so, and have been running http://www.petesqbsite.com since '98. I used to post here back in the day. WAY back in the day.

Pete Berg on 12/25/08 - 14:34:02

Forgot to talk about myself.... I'm 23 years old and live in Los Angeles. I work in Hollywood as a TV producer on a few reality shows. I also run about a dozen websites for fun and do some other side gigs and freelance web/tv/animation/media work. But I just spent the past 6 months backpacking through Asia (Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, China, Beijing Olympics, Tibet, Nepal and India)! Amazing trip. See some of my other work at: http://www.peteberg.net

Todd on 12/25/08 - 16:00:33

Awesome! You're a Jack, *cough* excuse me, Pete of All Trades! ;-)

Jocke The Beast on 01/02/09 - 06:14:49

My name is Joakim. I'm from Sweden. I'm 31 years old.

I've been around the "community" for about 10 years now. Back then it was Jorden's QB45.com Future Software. I also hung around asking silly questions at NeoBASIC and read the latest qb gmaes reviews at GbGames.

I've made some games, none really good but perhaps one or two playable."Riders of Rohan", "Mirkwood" and "Dark Woods 1 & 2"...

I'm a huge fan of roguelikes and old-school rpg/adventure games.

I love Tolkien and his books.

Take care!

anarky on 01/02/09 - 07:03:24

Hi, I'm anarky. I was also a news poster / moderator here once before right before the place was "ran into the ground". I discovered I really didn't have the time to do anything what with my real life getting in the way.

I used to post here way back when Jorden and co run the place. I haven't used QB in any way shape or form now for about 3 years, with the introduction of FreeBasic, our community built compiler. I never really made anything and was referred to as a "forum-lurker". I have however made a little bit in FB, but none is complete as such. I will probably stop coding altogether as I have lost motivation for it.

In recent years also I have taken over the Blobworld Comic franchise which used to be run by another former member. Not plugging it here though. If you want a link ask me.

Code well now, people. Oh jofers, I want one of those T-Shirts!

frognik on 01/23/09 - 07:26:23

Wow I havn't been here in such a long time.
Going thru the list of names in this post I can remember about 3 or 4 of you maybe more.

So a little bit of history about myself:
I was really more interested in pushing QB to the extreme limits using hackish methods rather than making a indusrty standard "qb rpg" or "qb 'fake' os".
I was also interested in any qb programming challenges there were around.

So what else?
I once hacked the old forum at this very address to give myself mod status.
Upon a dare I also banned the letter "i" and replaced it with "!"
It was all in good fun tho.

What am I up to nowadays?
I'm a super moderator at a site called snoxd.net in charge of a group called "hackers" (lol).
The site mainly involves hacking online games.

So anyone still remember Glenn?
He used to be the godfather of qb.

Todd on 01/23/09 - 12:28:11

Cool! If only QB was as popular now as it was years ago.

iamdenteddisk on 02/22/09 - 02:28:11

well I have seen all the qb sites and downloaded them all but never did I stop to sign a guestbook.
I guess I should have atleast posted my suport for the good Job of keeping QB alive.
Thanks to you all!
I have posted a website now and plan to continue the work too. It is not focused only on QB but it is included aswell as robotic's and physic's and general automation and free energy.for hobbiest project builders and experimenters. You are all welcome to come take part in the forums or link your site. -Glenn

Hi I use QB45 as I'm too old to bother learning another language!! I wonder if anyone has used QB to extract text from the PDF format files?
Can I call Zlib from within qb?

Bless you all

Todd on 06/12/09 - 14:28:34

I'm not sure if you can call ZLib from within QB. If you can port the ZLib source from C to QB you could use that but I don't know of anyone who's done that.

dragonit on 10/09/09 - 05:33:55

Stumbled across this site while looking for something else -- someone mentioned DOS programming languages in a thread on http://www.experts-exchange.com/

Used to program in QBasic.exe and then QB45 late 80's - mainly work stuff - Email conversion programs, "Sendfile" to accept email request FTP style and return files by email using Pegasus Mail (stuff still on my website http://www.dragon-it.co.uk/pegasus.htm ).

Main things I wrote for work (on the side my job at the time was Customer Services) was a big set of databases and systems for recording customer details, re-processing credit-card transaction files to send to customers and the like.... never did get paid for doing it :-( For 1990 was quite cool (for me) with mouse and keyboard driven scrolling menus, pop up windows and the like...

Anyway just having a poke around at what is on here, still have Qb45 on this machine though do most scripting in Batch files, Vbscript, VBA, VB or the Lotus Notes languages depending upon what is needed these days ..

Bongomeno on 12/14/09 - 12:51:22

Hey all! My name is Gemino Smothers and I am 16.
I love Heavy Metal and I have been programming for about 4 years now. I have always been a huge retro computing fan and have a number of Atari computers game systems and other stuff.

I started of programming in Blitz Basic but quickly moved on to other languages. Now, I know several basic dialects, C, Java (still learning), Lua, assembly, and have worked with some other languages as well.

I run a Qbasic site that you probably have never heard about. Some projects that I have worked on include some small text adventures (one is on the IF archives) several Atari 2600 games including a Super Mario clone. I am also currently working on my own programming language known as PROSEED. It will likely be the most important project that I have worked on so far.

My website is: geekbasic.webs.com

noway on 12/10/10 - 08:14:47

Try Smothers tiny basic on his site - great educational piece. And it works. And it can be added to and played with without 4 years of parsing courses and it can be compiled with FreeBasic ( 32 bit) and it ...
Great to see how an interpreter works in its simplest form.

Jobert on 03/09/11 - 01:27:43

Hi, I'm Jobert. I live in Purok Malakas, General Santos City, Philippines and I'am 14 years old becoming 15 this April. My full name is John Wilbert Villamor.

I started QBasic programming in late November, 2008 when I got interested with the QBasic programming section in my Grade 6 computer book that our computer teacher skipped. Most of my games and programs I made were simple pieces of junk mostly text applications while games have no real time graphics at all because I didn't know how to use GET or PUT at the time and I used bitmap images to simulate action. 2 years later, I learned the basics of BASIC and moved on to QB4.5 for speed and support for libraries as well as memory.

Now, I've made file packers and simple data compression algorithms (mostly RLE based) and I'm very busy working on my new, highly advanced game engine called the Sakura Engine with the use of DirectQB with some routines from DQBRel for extra speed and awesome graphical effects. It will be used in my custom version of Card Captor Sakura with a Duke Nukem II style mix (very bloody 2D shooter). I also do some anime artwork for my games or to satisfy my boredom and collect old computers as a hobby or to play older games that won't work properly on computers faster than a 386. I sometimes write programs in Visual Basic 3.0 and I don't like C style languages.

Cyperium on 04/11/11 - 08:29:09

My name is Mikael Bohlin, I come from Sweden and have programmed BASIC all my life (I'm 28, and have programmed since I were 9), I'm currently involved in making a interpreter for QB64 and doing some games and stuff for QB64 too. I like QB64 since it is 100% compatible with QB 4.5 while extending the capabilities without interferring with the syntax (unlike FreeBASIC which in my eyes sold out a bit, sorry all the FB enthusiasts but you can't retain that it's BASIC while having a very un-BASIC syntax for the new capabilities, which is also what all the other modern "BASIC" dialects are doing too).

Anyway, we have a very active community at QB64.net (around 50 regular posters) and the popularity of QB64 seems to be increasing.

edward on 06/20/11 - 18:10:10

Hi Im a hobbyist playing around with varies program languages. Internet access in South Africa is one of our major problems and costly, nevertheless when I do get the opportunity I'll just spend time with programming. I would still love to learn ASM as I have an interest in software that operates hardware. I've downloaded directqb but do have a problem as the dqbman.bas file has a missing "sub interruptx" , causing the program not to run.
I've re-downloaded the file still nothing going.
I believe the is help out there. Thanks man

Patrick Shank on 07/11/11 - 00:14:50

Hey guys, my name's Pat I've been using QB for about 15 years on & off. Started a new website although not all my games are on there
HTTP://Top-Gun-Software.tripod.com
I have lots of projects going on right now, newest is my GTA engine lol more info on that one later!

gablea on 08/08/11 - 14:33:43

Hi My name is Andy and I Live in the UK.
I write EPoS Software as a hobbie and I ONLY use QuickBasic / VBDOS / FreeBASIC for the applcaitions

The FreeBASIC apps will only work on NEW machine so to support my older machines I use QuickBasic (and I LOVE it SOOO Much faster then my FreeBASIC machines)

The only thing about QB I do not miss in FB is in FB I can use the xfont Libary to do large text but in QB I can not do large lext :(

my mates call me DOS Boy (as I love MS-DOS and Windows 3.11)
